Finding Balance: From Summer Ease to Fall Routine
This past month, I had the honour of speaking at Island Health’s Self Care Café, a wonderful program designed to support healthcare professionals, students, and volunteers. The session was filled with gratitude, so many people shared that they felt lighter and calmer after practicing the nervous system regulation drills. It's always a joy for me to witness how even small, simple practices can make such a difference (even with a couple of tech snafus!). I’m so grateful to Island Health for creating a space to share these tools and for their commitment to supporting wellness in the healthcare system.

The transition from summer into fall is always a shift. Summer often brings freedom, travel, and looser schedules, while fall invites us back into more structure and routine. That change can feel grounding, but it can also feel overwhelming if we don’t support our nervous systems along the way.
Here are a few simple ways to ease the transition:

Anchor your mornings. Even one small ritual, like breathing exercises, stretching, or a mindful cup of tea, helps your body feel safe and steady.

Bring movement into your day. Short walks, mobility drills, or even gentle balance exercises reset your system and boost energy.

Pause to regulate. Just two minutes of a nervous system regulation drill can help you re-centre when stress starts to creep in.
Fall is a wonderful time to reset, ground ourselves, and establish rhythms that carry us through the season with more ease. By weaving in small, intentional practices, we can create steadiness, support our well-being, and feel more resilient no matter what the months ahead bring.
